Procrastination = STRESS
by Amanda Van Noort
When you were a student, did you ever know about an assignment for months but not begin working on it until right before it was due? You knew the consequence of procrastinating…that your chance of receiving a poor grade was much higher…but other things would often become more important? Did you ever have to turn something in incomplete or were you ever unhappy with the work even though you knew you were the one who caused the delay in your project getting done right?
The same rule applies when dealing with lobby makeovers. Your space conveys who you are as an organization. You may know for months that your space needs improvement but are procrastinating because day-to-day business is important. However, waiting to make a change is prolonging the inevitable.
Once you decide to move foward with your lobby makeover, be sure to allow plenty of time for large changes. Things like carpet, tile, and furniture can take 4-8 weeks for production and won't be completed well if they are rushed. Knowing that in advance will help the entire makeover team develop expectations that are reasonable. Having an attainable completion date will reduce stress for everyone involved.
